Product Design and Application — EMDP Session for Mechanical Engineering Students

As part of the Entrepreneurship and Management Development Programme (EMDP) for the Mechanical Engineering department, Prasartech’s Mr. G.M. Prabhu delivered a guest lecture on Product Design and Application at Periyar Centenary Polytechnic College.

The session walked students through how a product moves from concept to finished design — covering design thinking fundamentals, material and manufacturing considerations, and how mechanical engineers evaluate a design for real-world application rather than just technical correctness. Emphasis was placed on connecting core mechanical concepts to product decisions companies actually make, giving students a practical lens for coursework they’d otherwise see as purely theoretical.

The lecture also touched on how strong product design thinking feeds into entrepreneurship — helping students see product development not just as an engineering task, but as a foundation for building something of their own.
